When is IVF recommended?

IVF is a type of assisted reproductive technology used to treat infertility in women and men and address genetic issues in one or both parents. IVF may also be used in surrogacy arrangements. IVF is generally not used until less invasive or expensive options have failed or been determined unlikely to work. IVF is generally recommended to women with blocked or removed fallopian tubes, infertility disorders like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) or endometriosis, irregular ovulation cycles, or to men with sperm abnormalities.
