IVF in Cyprus for Scandinavian Patients — Gender Selection, Egg Donation & Affordable IVF Abroad

Each year, thousands of patients from Sweden, Norway and Denmark travel abroad for fertility treatment — and Cyprus has become one of the most popular destinations. Whether you are seeking gender selection that is not legally available at home, egg donation with full anonymity, or simply a more affordable and accessible path to parenthood, EuroCARE IVF in North Cyprus offers Scandinavian patients world-class fertility care without the restrictions, waiting times or high costs of treatment at home.

Why Scandinavian Patients Choose Cyprus for IVF

The Nordic countries have well-funded public healthcare systems, but fertility treatment at home comes with significant restrictions that lead many patients to seek treatment abroad. Here are the five most common reasons Scandinavian patients choose EuroCARE IVF in Cyprus:

1. Gender Selection Is Not Permitted in Sweden, Norway or Denmark

Family balancing through gender selection is prohibited across all three Scandinavian countries. PGT-A — the genetic testing method used to identify embryo sex before transfer — is not legally available for non-medical use in Sweden, Norway or Denmark. At EuroCARE IVF in North Cyprus, gender selection is fully legal and offered using PGT-A with over 99% accuracy. If building a balanced family is part of your journey, Cyprus is one of very few European destinations where this is possible.

2. Egg Donation Is Banned in Norway

Norwegian patients face a particularly significant restriction — egg donation is entirely prohibited in Norway. This means women who need donor eggs to conceive have no option but to travel abroad. EuroCARE IVF offers a comprehensive egg donation programme with a broad donor database, thorough screening, and full anonymity. There are no waiting lists, and treatment can begin as soon as your initial tests are complete.

3. No Waiting Lists — Start Treatment on Your Timeline

Even where IVF is publicly funded in Scandinavia, waiting times for treatment can stretch to many months — particularly for egg donation cycles. At EuroCARE, there are no waiting lists. Once you have completed your free virtual consultation and pre-treatment tests at home, we schedule your treatment cycle around your timeline.

4. Significantly Lower Cost Than Private Treatment

Private IVF cycles in Sweden and Norway typically cost between €4,000 and €7,000, with egg donation cycles considerably more expensive. At EuroCARE, IVF starts from €3,000 — and even after flights and accommodation, most Scandinavian patients find Cyprus significantly more affordable than private treatment at home.

5. Anonymous Egg Donation

Donor anonymity rules vary across Scandinavia — in Sweden and Finland, donors can be identified by the child at age 18, similar to the UK. Many patients prefer full anonymity and choose Cyprus specifically for this reason. At EuroCARE, all egg donors remain completely anonymous. You will receive a detailed donor profile covering physical characteristics, educational background and full health screening results — but donor identity is never disclosed.

At EuroCARE IVF, we’re committed to providing you with the best IVF in Cyprus. Our experienced team is here to support you through every stage of your journey, ensuring you have the highest quality care and the best possible chance of success.

North Cyprus & IVF - What Scandinavian Patients Need to Know

North Cyprus operates under its own Ministry of Health regulations. It permits gender selection for medical purposes, maintains strict donor anonymity, and allows treatment for women up to age 55. EuroCARE IVF is based in Nicosia, North Cyprus — meaning scaninavian patients have access to the full range of treatments that are either unavailable or unaffordable at home.

Scandinavian passport holders do not require a visa to enter North Cyprus. Flights are available from Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen and Helsinki to Larnaca Airport (LCA) or Ercan Airport (ECN), with journey times of approximately 4–5 hours. EuroCARE will help coordinate your airport transfers and local accommodation recommendations to ensure your stay is comfortable and stress-free.

Your IVF Journey from Scandinavia — Step by Step

One of the biggest concerns patients have about IVF abroad is the logistics. Here is exactly what your journey with EuroCARE looks like from first contact to positive pregnancy test.

Step 1 — Free Virtual Consultation (From Home)

Your journey begins with a free virtual consultation with one of our patient coordinators. This is done via video call from the comfort of your home. We’ll discuss your medical history, treatment options, expected timeline and costs. There’s no obligation and no pressure.

Step 2 — Pre-Treatment Tests at Home (Weeks 1–3)

Following your consultation, we’ll provide you with a list of blood tests and scans to complete locally with a EuroCARE provided list of our partnered clinics and physicians throughout Norway, Denmark & Sweden. These tests include hormone levels (AMH, FSH, LH), a transvaginal ultrasound, and viral screening for both partners. Your EuroCARE coordinator will guide you through exactly what’s needed and where to get it done.

Step 3 — Medication at Home (Weeks 2–4)

Once your test results are reviewed by our medical team, your stimulation protocol is prescribed. Medication is taken at home  via self-administered injections over 8–12 days. Your coordinator will walk you through the process and is available to answer questions throughout.

Step 4 — Travel to Cyprus (Days 8–10 Stay)

You’ll fly to Cyprus when your follicles reach the right size — your coordinator monitors this remotely using scan results from your local clinic. EuroCARE can assist with airport transfers and recommend accommodation options.

Step 5 — Treatment at EuroCARE (In Clinic)

Once in Cyprus, you’ll have your trigger injection, egg retrieval under light sedation, fertilisation using ICSI, embryo development monitoring, and embryo transfer — all within your stay. If you’ve opted for PGT-A (gender selection or genetic screening), embryo biopsy and testing takes place during this period.

Step 6 — Fly Home and Wait

Most patients fly home 24–48 hours after embryo transfer. Your pregnancy blood test (beta-hCG) is done 12 days later — this can be arranged at your local GP or a private clinic at home. Your EuroCARE coordinator remains in contact throughout the two-week wait and beyond.
