Tandem IVF in Cyprus

Your Eggs and Donor Eggs in One Cycle

You’re not ready to give up on your own eggs — but you know the odds aren’t in your favour. Tandem IVF gives you both options in a single cycle: your eggs and a donor’s eggs, fertilised and cultured together. If your own eggs produce a healthy embryo, it’s transferred first. If they don’t, donor embryos are already waiting. No second cycle, no extra waiting, no what-ifs.

What Is Tandem IVF?

Tandem IVF is a treatment approach where your own eggs and a donor’s eggs are used in the same IVF cycle. Both sets of eggs are retrieved, fertilised with your partner’s sperm (or donor sperm), and cultured in the laboratory simultaneously. When the embryos reach blastocyst stage, they can be tested with PGT-A if desired, and the best embryo is selected for transfer.

The term “tandem” means “together” — and that’s exactly what this treatment does. It runs two parallel tracks in one cycle, giving you the emotional satisfaction of trying with your own eggs while providing the statistical safety net of donor eggs.

Tandem IVF is not widely offered. Most clinics ask you to choose between own eggs or donor eggs — a binary decision that forces women over 40 into an emotional corner. EuroCARE offers Tandem IVF specifically because we understand that for many women, the choice isn’t that simple.

Who Is Tandem IVF For?

Tandem IVF exists for a very specific patient — someone caught between two realities.

💭

"I'm Not Ready to Give Up on My Own Eggs"

You’re over 40 and you know the statistics aren’t great with your own eggs. But emotionally, you need to know you tried. You don’t want to spend the rest of your life wondering “what if I’d used my own eggs?” Tandem IVF lets you try — with a backup plan built in.

⚖️

"I Want the Best Chance Without Giving Up Hope"

You understand that donor eggs give higher success rates over 40. But you also want to try with your own eggs first. Tandem IVF gives you both without requiring two separate cycles, two trips to Cyprus, and double the cost and time.

🔬

"My Ovarian Reserve Is Low but Not Zero"

Your AMH is declining and your doctor says egg quality is a concern, but you’re still producing eggs. You don’t have enough reserve for a strong own-egg-only cycle, but you’re not ready to go straight to full donor. Tandem IVF is the clinical middle ground.

How Tandem IVF Works — Step by Step

Tandem IVF follows the same core IVF process but with two parallel egg sources. Here’s exactly what happens.

1

Free Consultation & Treatment Planning

Virtual consultation with your coordinator. You discuss your medical history, AMH levels, ovarian reserve, and goals. Dr. Yucel reviews your profile and recommends whether Tandem IVF is the right approach — or whether own eggs alone or donor eggs alone may be more suitable. No obligation.

2

Donor Matching

While you complete pre-treatment tests at home, EuroCARE begins the donor matching process. You receive an anonymous donor profile — physical characteristics, ethnic background, education, blood type, and health screening results. You approve the match before treatment begins. Donor identity is never disclosed.

3

Pre-Treatment Tests at Home

Blood tests and scans at your local clinic — AMH, FSH, LH, transvaginal ultrasound, viral screening. For your partner, a semen analysis. Your coordinator provides the exact list.

4

Synchronised Stimulation

Both you and the egg donor undergo ovarian stimulation simultaneously. You take hormone injections at home for 8–12 days. The donor is stimulated at the clinic in Cyprus on a synchronised timeline. Your coordinator monitors your progress remotely via scan results from your local clinic.

5

Travel to Cyprus — Dual Egg Retrieval

Once your follicles are ready, you fly to Cyprus. Both your eggs and the donor’s eggs are retrieved — yours under light sedation at the clinic (15–20 minutes). Both sets of eggs are fertilised with your partner’s sperm using ICSI on the same day.

6

Embryo Culture & PGT-A Testing (Optional)

Both sets of embryos are cultured for 5 days to reach blastocyst stage. If you’ve opted for PGT-A, all blastocysts from both sources are biopsied and tested for chromosomal health and gender. You’ll receive a complete report showing which embryos are healthy — from your eggs and from the donor’s eggs — so you can make an informed choice.

7

Embryo Selection & Transfer

This is the moment that makes Tandem IVF unique. You review results with Dr. Yucel and decide which embryo to transfer. If your own eggs produced a chromosomally healthy embryo, that can be your first choice. If they didn’t — or if the donor embryo is stronger — you have that option ready. No second cycle needed. Remaining healthy embryos from either source can be frozen for future use.

8

Fly Home & Pregnancy Test

You can fly home 24–48 hours after transfer. Flying does not affect implantation. A pregnancy blood test (beta-hCG) is taken 12 days later at your local clinic. Your coordinator stays in contact throughout the two-week wait and beyond — including during early pregnancy.

Your coordinator will review your age, AMH, and history to give you an honest recommendation.

Tandem IVF vs Own Eggs vs Egg Donation — Which Is Right for You?

The decision between these three options isn’t always obvious. Here’s an honest comparison.

Factor IVF (Own Eggs) Tandem IVF Egg Donation IVF
Genetic connection to baby ✅ Yes ✅ Possible ❌ No (donor genetics)
Success rate over 40 Lower (age-dependent) Strong (donor backup) Up to 80%+
Risk of no transferable embryo Higher (limited eggs) Very low (donor backup) Very low
Emotional peace of mind May wonder "what if donor?" ✅ You tried both May wonder "what if own eggs?"
Number of embryos Limited (age-dependent) Combined pool Strong (young donor)
Number of trips to Cyprus 1–2 1–2 (same as single) 1–2
Cost From €3,100 Contact for quote From €5,700
Best for age 40–43 40–45 40–56

The "emotional peace of mind" row is often the deciding factor. Tandem IVF is the only option that eliminates the "what if" — because you tried both approaches in the same cycle. Whatever the outcome, you know you explored every possibility.

Why Most Clinics Don't Offer Tandem IVF

If Tandem IVF sounds like an obvious solution, you may be wondering why your clinic at home didn’t suggest it.

Clinical complexity: Tandem IVF requires synchronising two stimulation protocols, coordinating two egg retrievals, managing two sets of embryos in the laboratory, and supporting the patient through the decision-making process. Not all clinics have the infrastructure or willingness to manage this complexity.

Regulatory barriers: In countries where egg donation is banned (Germany) or heavily restricted, Tandem IVF is simply not possible. In countries where egg donation is non-anonymous (UK since 2005, France since 2025), fewer donors are available — making synchronisation difficult.

Statistical reporting: Some clinics avoid offering Tandem IVF because the hybrid nature complicates their published success statistics. A Tandem IVF pregnancy using the donor embryo counts differently than one using own eggs — which matters to clinics focused on marketing their numbers.

EuroCARE’s approach: EuroCARE offers Tandem IVF because it serves the patient’s interest, not the clinic’s reporting convenience. Dr. Yucel has the clinical experience to manage dual-protocol complexity, the lab has the capacity to handle both embryo sets simultaneously, and North Cyprus law supports both egg donation and the flexibility Tandem IVF requires.

Tandem IVF Cost at EuroCARE

Tandem IVF pricing is customised based on your individual treatment plan because the stimulation protocol, donor matching, and PGT-A requirements vary per patient.

Tandem IVF is not double the cost of a standard cycle. While it involves two egg sources, much of the process is shared — the same lab, the same transfer, the same coordinator. The additional cost covers donor compensation, synchronised stimulation, and the extra lab work for the donor’s embryos.

For comparison: doing a standard own-egg IVF cycle (from €3,100), failing, and then doing a full donor egg cycle (from €5,700) would cost more than Tandem IVF — plus require two separate trips to Cyprus and twice the emotional investment. Tandem IVF consolidates both into one cycle and one trip.

Your coordinator provides a detailed, personalised cost estimate during your free consultation. No hidden fees.

“Sherry was my point of contact and she was absolutely amazing. All the staff were attentive, supportive and really friendly. I had a positive pregnancy test two weeks after insemination and had twins — a boy and a girl — in March. I have nothing but glowing reviews for EuroCARE IVF. Very supportive, very informative, and a fraction of the price compared to the UK.”

“I cannot thank Dr. Yucel and his team enough for making our dreams come true! Lyndsay is a coordinator like no other — friendly, kind, knowledgeable, and prompt. Without her, nothing would have been possible. My journey wasn’t easy and I had to do a few rounds of IVF to get my princess, but we never gave up. Frequently Asked Questions — Tandem IVF

Tandem IVF combines your own eggs and donor eggs in the same IVF cycle. Both sets are fertilised, cultured, and optionally PGT-A tested. You choose the best embryo for transfer from either source. It gives you both options in one cycle.

Tandem IVF is designed for women over 40 who want to try with their own eggs but recognise that donor eggs may give better results. It’s the middle ground between giving up on your own eggs entirely and risking a full own-egg cycle that may not produce transferable embryos.

Pricing is customised per patient. It costs more than a standard own-egg cycle but less than doing an own-egg cycle followed by a separate donor cycle. Your coordinator provides a detailed estimate during your free consultation.

Yes, because you have embryos from two sources. Even if your own eggs don’t produce a healthy embryo, donor embryos are available in the same cycle. The overall chance of having at least one transferable embryo is significantly higher than own-egg-only IVF over 40.

Yes. All embryos from both your eggs and the donor’s eggs can be PGT-A tested. This identifies chromosomal health and gender for every embryo, giving you complete information before you choose which to transfer.

Yes. If embryos from both sources are PGT-A tested, gender is identified for all of them. You can factor gender into your embryo selection decision alongside chromosomal health and embryo source.

Yes. The donor component follows the same anonymity rules as standard egg donation in North Cyprus. You receive a comprehensive donor profile but identity is never disclosed.

It requires synchronising two stimulation protocols, managing two embryo sets, and navigating complex patient decisions. Many clinics lack the infrastructure or prefer simpler treatment categories. In countries where egg donation is banned or non-anonymous, it isn’t practically feasible.

The same as standard IVF: 8–10 days for the first visit. If embryos are frozen for PGT-A, you return for a 3–4 day transfer visit. Tandem IVF does not require a longer stay.

Book a free virtual consultation through our website or contact us via WhatsApp. Your coordinator will discuss your medical history, goals, treatment options, expected timeline and costs — with no obligation. From initial consultation to treatment start is typically 4–6 weeks.
